Homicide Report (SHR) data is collected by the Federal Bureau of Investigation
(FBI) from state and local law enforcement agencies. Participation
is voluntary, but most law enforcement agencies do participate. The
SHR is the most comprehensive data set on homicides in the United
States currently available.
