Age

Two female homicide victims (40 percent) were less than 18 years old, and there were no victims 65 years of age or older


Race and Ethnicity

All 5 females murdered were white. Under ethnic classification, none of the women were categorized as being of Hispanic origin.


Most Common Weapons

Weapons were identified for all 5 cases. One of the 5 female homicide victims (20 percent) was shot and killed with a gun. This firearm was a handgun. There was 1 female killed with a knife or other cutting instrument, and 1 killed by bodily force. The remaining 2 cases involved other non-firearm weapons.


Victim/Offender Relationship

The relationship was identified for all 5 cases. All 5 victims were murdered by someone they knew. Three victims (60 percent) were wives, common-law wives, ex-wives, or girlfriends of the offender. The 1 firearm/handgun homicide was a female intimate.


Circumstance

In cases in which the circumstance of the homicide could be identified (4 cases), one was not related to the commission of any other felony. Of these other cases, 2 involved an argument between the victim and offender.
