Violence Policy Center Statement on Mass Shooting at Capital Gazette Newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland

For Release: Thursday, June 28, 2018

Following the mass shooting at the Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland, which resulted in five deaths, Violence Policy Center Executive Director Josh Sugarmann issued the following statement:

“A weary nation mourns yet again as we add newsrooms to the killing field that is modern-day America. With the routinization of public slaughter that now defines our nation, no place is safe and the only questions are when and where the next mass shooting will occur. But mass shootings don’t just happen. They are the inevitable result of a gun industry that is free of even the most basic health and safety regulation and federal inaction that can be laid directly at the feet of the National Rifle Association.”
